Prayer for Government & Authorities

Prayer for Government and Authorities

Father God, I come before You and I bring our government before You, to pray for them and to make intercession for them: the Legislative Authority, the Executive Authority and the Judicial Authority, and all of their levels, spheres and functions, the President, the deputy President, ministers, governors, mayors and people appointed in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, in all godliness and honesty (1 Tim 2:2)

All authority in heaven and earth has been given to the Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 28:18) and all authority is established by You, and I subject myself to the governing authorities appointed over me, my area, my city, my province and my country (Rom 13:1).

I ask for the prosperity and peace of the city where You carried me to, where I currently am residing and to wherever You may carry me to, so that it may prosper, and that I will prosper (Jer 29:7).

Father God, You make nations great, and You destroy them. You enlarge nations and You disperse them (Job 12:23-25). By You kings reign and princes decree justice (Prov 8:15). Kingship belongs to the Lord, and You rule over the nations (Ps 22:28). Because those in auhtority’s hearts are streams of water in Your hand, o Lord, because You hold the hearts of those appointed in authority over us, in Your hand, You can turn it wherever You will (Prov 21:1).

I pray that their ears will turn to wisdom and their hearts be applied to understanding. Let them call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, may they look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure – that they will understand the fear of the Lord and find Your knowledge. For You give wisdom, from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding (Prov 2:1-6).

I pray for the kings, president, leaders, governers, ministers, mayors and all their deputies, as well as all those in any authority or office, I pray that they will fear You, Lord, that they will celebrate Your rule with trembling (Ps 2:10-11), that they will walk in integrity of heart, in uprightness, that they will do all that You have commanded them, that they will keep Your statutes and Your judgments (1 Kings 9:4). I ask that they will not wrest judgment, that they will not respect persons, neither take gifts or bribes: for gifts blind the eyes of the wise and pervert the words of the righteous (Deut 16:19) and I pray for victory through many advisors – that our nation won’t fall for lack of guidance (Prov 11:4). Father God, I ask that those in authority be righteous, so that we, the people can rejoice. Let not the wicked bear rule in our country, because that is when the people mourn (Prov 29:2)

Work in the hearts and minds of the people of this country, that they will subject themselves to the principalities and powers of those appointed in authority over them, that they will obey the law of God, the law and ordinances of the country, and of the magistrates, and that they will be ready to every good work (Titus 3:1-2). May we, the people, not resist the powers, which are ordained of You, because resisting the powers is resisting Your ordinance, and that shall bring damnation on all who resisted. May we all live according to the code of Your word: Honour all men, Love the brotherhood, Fear God, Honour the king (1 Pet 2:13-17).

Help me to obey them that rule over me, to submit myself, to render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear and honour to whom honour, for they watch over my soul and will give account accordingly. May they rule over me with joy and not with grief, for that is unprofitable for me (Heb 13:17, Rom 13:7).

Lord, bless and keep our government, and all the rulers of this country, let Your face shine upon them and be gracious unto them. Lord, lift up Your countenance upon them and give them peace. (Numb 6:24-26)

Amen & Alleluia
